Abstract

This case report highlights about intracystic papillary carcinoma of the breast and use of myoepithelial cell marker. Intracystic papillary carcinoma of the breast is a rare malignant epithelial neoplasm with papillary pattern surrounded by a fibrous capsule and low to intermediate nuclear grade. The lesion shows thin fibrovascular stalks surrounded by neoplastic cells. In most cases, no myoepithelial cell layer within the papillae or at the periphery of the lesion is seen. Clinically most patients are elderly and presents with clear or blood-stained nipple discharge or a definite breast lump. Management includes complete surgical excision of the lesion with wide surrounding breast tissue. We report a case of 42 years old woman presented with a painless, palpable lump in left breast since one and a half years. On examination, the lump was present below the nipple and areola, was firm, mobile, well-circumscribed, measured 3.0 x 2.0 cms in size; no evidence of nipple retraction, abnormal nipple discharge or skin thickening.
