Abstract

Leaf segments were prepared and cultured on MS medium supplemented with different concentrations and combinations of growth regulators. Among the combinations tried, highest frequency of callus induction was obtained with 1.0 mg/l 2,4-D + 2.2 mg/l TDZ + 0.12 mg/l zeatin combination. Maximum frequency of shoots was noticed on MS medium containing 0.6 mg/l TDZ and 1.2 mg/l zeatin and also gave rise to 27.0 shoot buds per callus mass. The regenerated shoots were elongated on medium with 0.5 mg/l GA and rooted plants were then established in greenhouse for hardening.
