Abstract

Study on semen characteristics of Nellore Jodipi rams maintained at Livestock Research Station,
Palamaner was undertaken. The mean (±SE) ejaculate volume, sperm concentration and mass
activity (0-5 scale) in semen of Nellore Jodipi rams were 0.62±0.03 ml, 4037.66±42.75million per ml
and 3.98±0.08, respectively. The mean (±SE) percentage of individual motility, live spermatozoa,
head, mid piece and tail abnormalities and intact acrosomes in fresh semen were 70.75±0.53,
63.22±0.48, 1.02±0.11,0.10±0.04, 5.08±0.22 and 95.47±0.20, respectively. The present study has
revealed that semen characteristics of Nellore Jodipi ram were well within the normal limit and could
maintain its fertilizing potential in TCFY dilutor up to 48 h of storage period at 5ºC.
